Injection Molding for Water Treatment

Treatment equipment holds water under pressure day and night and doses chemicals that attack most materials. The molded parts are judged on one thing above all: they must not fail while nobody is watching.

Chemicals

Match the resin to what is in the water

The same housing can last decades in one plant and crack in months in another.

What the part touchesResins that hold upResins to avoid
Clean water under pressureGlass filled PP, PPO, polysulfoneUnfilled resins that creep under constant pressure
Chlorine and hypochloritePVDF, CPVC, PPSUAcetal and many nylons
Acids and caustics for pH controlPP, PVDFPolycarbonate, which caustics attack
OzonePVDFMost general purpose resins
Salt brine in softenersPP, HDPE, glass filled PPO for valve headsMetal parts that corrode, often the reason plastic was chosen

Pressure

Filter housings that hold pressure for years

A filter bowl fills, pressurizes, and relaxes every time a tap opens. That is fatigue, not a single load.

  • Burst tests prove a housing on day one. Cycle tests prove it in year ten, and they are the ones that catch weak designs
  • Weld lines where flows meet are the usual crack site, so gates are placed to push them away from the most stressed areas
  • Bowl threads and the O ring groove take the highest stress. Smooth transitions matter more there than anywhere else
  • Clear bowls let users see when a cartridge is dirty, but clear resins must be checked against the chemicals in the water
Yellow, white, and red molded covers, gray and black junction boxes, pipe clamps, and an amber beacon lens

RFQ notes

What to send with a water treatment part

These change the resin and the testing plan.

  • Every chemical the part touches, with concentration and temperature

  • Working pressure and how often it cycles

  • Whether the part must be clear, and why

  • The resin grade your drinking water listing requires, if any

  • Mating threads, O rings, and cartridges it must fit

FAQ

Questions from water treatment teams

Why do dosing pump heads use PVDF?

PVDF handles chlorine, acids, and many oxidizers that attack other plastics. For heads that touch concentrated treatment chemicals every day, it is often the safest choice even though the resin costs more.

Can membrane end caps be molded?

Yes. End caps and interconnectors are typically molded in glass filled PP, PPO, or similar grades. Their seal grooves and bores must hold size so O rings seal every time.

Who handles certification for drinking water contact?

The listing belongs to the finished product and the resin grade. Name the listed grade on the drawing, and it is run unchanged on every order.

Can softener valve heads be one piece?

Valve heads are usually a molded body with molded or bought internal parts. Glass filled PPO is common for the body because it holds size in water and resists brine.
