What Happens After You Accept an Instant Quote
Accept Is Step 3, Not a New Inbox
Accept means the reviewed quote becomes the order path for that CAD revision. DFM notes, tool build, and production status stay on the same workspace. No new email thread. No second RFQ. Accept does not fill blank resin, quantity, or inspection fields. A new solid is a new package. Re-quote it.
Read online quote and order for the four actions. This page covers what you should expect after accept.
Upload, read, accept, track: same program
The workspace remembers the CAD revision. Email does not. The four actions are upload, read, accept, and track. Accept is the third. Track is the fourth. They happen on the same program, not in a new inbox. Start the upload on the instant quote platform.
Guest preview cannot carry tracking; log in before accept
Guest screenshot plus a PO email is not a tracked order. Guest preview is read-only. Accept and tracking require a logged-in workspace so DFM notes, status, and files stay connected. If you reviewed as a guest, create an account from that page or upload again after login. Read how to create an account after a guest quote.
DFM flags stay attached after accept
A DFM flag is not cleared by clicking accept. It is cleared by a decision. Flags stay attached. They are notes, not a refusal. Read design for manufacturing for the note language you will keep seeing.
A worked example: quote Q-3310 has CAD Rev C, named ABS, a quantity, and two DFM notes. The buyer accepts. Later they open the same record to read tool-build status. They do not forward a screenshot to a new address and hope someone files it.
What to tell sourcing: accept only on a logged-in record if you want engineer review and tracking. Procurement sometimes treats accept as a signature on a PDF that left the building. It is not. The workspace still holds the CAD revision, the notes, and the later status.
What Accept Does and Does Not Do
Locks the reviewed scope as the order path
Accept is a lock on the scope you read, not a signature that makes missing fields appear. A logged-in quote includes a system prelim and a later engineer-reviewed number. Accept sits after you have read that reviewed record. It locks that package as the order path.
Does not fill blank material, quantity, or inspection
If the resin field was blank, accept does not fill ABS for you. If quantity was a guess, accept does not correct it. If inspection said TBD, accept does not create an FAI. The record keeps what you approved, including the gaps.
Does not retire a DFM note you skipped
A flag that said a wall needs review is still on the record. You can accept with that note in view, or you can change the solid and re-quote. You cannot accept the note out of existence.
Does not set a ship date; 10-day figure is tool completion on qualified programs
Tool build timing, when stated, is the approved 10 business days from order placed to completed steel tool on qualified programs, depending on part size and complexity. That figure is not first-article delivery and not production delivery. Production timing stays qualitative. Do not write a ship date on this page.
Common mistakes: accepting a guest preview as if it were a tracked order; accepting before reading DFM notes; treating accept as a waiver; treating the prelim number as the accepted number.
What to tell sourcing: confirm CAD revision, resin, quantity, and inspection before accept. If any field is empty, fill it. If they are still on a guest page, stop.
The Path After Accept
Tool build status on the same quote record
After accept, open project management workspace for that same quote. Tooling status belongs on project tracking for that record. You do not start a second RFQ to ask where the tool is. Read how NetProto works for quote, DFM, tool, parts, same thread.
T1 as measurement, not automatic final acceptance
First shots are a measurement moment, not automatic final acceptance. Read first article inspection for molded parts when incoming will file a ballooned report. T1 photos are evidence of timing, not of the drawing report.
Production status and shipping notices in workspace
When parts are running, watch production status on that quote. Shipping notices belong on the same record. Logistics and delivery is the program view for freight notes. This page does not publish a production calendar or a ship date.
New CAD revision = new package, re-quote, do not patch
If the snap moves, stop and re-quote. Do not patch the accepted record with a silent file. The previous accepted record stays as history. Steel-cut status on injection mold manufacturing is still the same owned tool only when the solid did not change.
A worked path: accept on Q-3310. Read the two DFM notes again. Watch tool-build status on that quote. When parts are running, watch production status on that quote.
What to tell sourcing: put the quote ID in the PO. Status questions point at that ID. A new email subject is not tracking.
Pre-Accept Checklist
Use this list before anyone treats accept as the order.
- Confirm CAD revision and RFQ fields match what you intend to buy.
- Read DFM notes and write accept or change.
- Accept only on a logged-in record if you want engineer review and tracking.
- Watch status on that same quote.
- Upload a new solid if the design moved.
Step 1 is the package. Revision, resin, quantity, finish, inspection. If one field is a placeholder, you are not ready.
Step 2 is the notes. Each flag is a decision. Accept the scope, or change the solid. Do not skip the read.
Step 3 is the account. Guest preview cannot carry tracking. Logged-in records can.
Step 4 is the workspace. Status lives on the quote you accepted. Bookmark that record.
Step 5 is the revision rule. A new solid is a new package. Re-quote it. The accepted record stays as history.
A worked submit block: CAD Rev C, named ABS, quantity entered, FAI on five balloons, two DFM notes read, logged-in record, accept. That block can be tracked. Guest screenshot plus email PO cannot.
Common mistakes at submit:
- Accepting to make the number stop moving.
- Accepting with TBD resin.
- Starting a second quote for status.
- Forwarding a guest screenshot as the order.
- Asking email for a production calendar.
What to tell sourcing: send this checklist with the quote ID. Hold accept until the logged-in reviewed record matches the PO.
What to tell purchasing: accept locks the scope you read. It does not invent missing fields. It does not start a new inbox. Tool-build status stays on the same quote.
